On a remarkably calm evening, members enthusiastically supported the Evening Open Garden at Ann Duncan’s house. While some of the tulips were going over, many plants were in peak bloom, including rhododendrons of all colours and several beautiful magnolias. Some said they were tempted to invest in the latter, while realizing that Ann’s success is partly due to the extensive wind-shelter provided by other shrubs and hedges. A collection was taken for The Brooke Charity, which is dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in some of the world's poorest communities
